The Pennington Farmers Market has officially designated the 2nd Saturday in August to be TOMATO DAY. It’s the day we celebrate New Jersey’s favorite fruit which presents itself as a vegetable.
We will have our traditional guess-the-weight-of-the-tomato contest (no fair picking it up). Young visitors can toss tomatoes (donated by Chickadee Creek) into a corn hole (everyone gets a prize).
You will find lots of tomato and tomato-adjacent products for sale this week. Of course, Chickadee Creek has every variety of tomato you can imagine available. You might want to get some fresh mozzarella from Paolo’s Kitchen to go with those tomatoes, and you will probably need some olive oil from Louis Organics as well. Sourland Mountain Spirits will be bringing their Bloody Mary Mix, and lots of other vendors are looking for ways to include tomatoes in their offerings. (Not sure that Wildspawn Mushrooms will be able to do that, but they might have a recipe or two to share that incorporates tomatoes.)
Come out, enjoy the fun, and check in with your neighbors while you’re here!
